4th Place Underwater Digital Art

Lilian Koh

Constellation Keeper

The Story:

This goby was almost invisible at first. What caught my eye wasn’t the fish, but the repeating white rings of the tunicate. Only after slowing down did the goby reveal itself, perfectly aligned with the patterns beneath it. Gobies like these are common, yet easy to miss, relying on stillness and precise camouflage rather than movement to stay safe. I spent time adjusting my position and framing, waiting for the fish to remain calm and undisturbed. Shooting close and symmetrically helped reveal both the goby and the intricate structure of its host, turning something often overlooked into the main subject of the frame.
