“Inside Out”

The Story:  This image is the first of my series ‘inside out’ & ‘upside down’ developed during the Covid-19 quarantine. During this hard time, we have experienced fear and anxiety but we have also adapted to the situation and showed our best inner self to the world. We have seen volunteers helping out in hospitals, trainers entertaining a whole block of buildings, singers perfoming from their balconies and infinite examples of the most humane acts. That is exactly what this image represents: a rupture with your shell and the burst of your best inner self.

Technichal details: The original image of the clownfish  (Amphiprion sandaracinos) was taken with an Olympus EPL2 + Zuiko 60mm macro lens. That image was processed with the Fractalius filter to create the inner view of the fish. Then both images were overlapped in different layers in photoshop and playing with layer masks and different mask blendings I was able to create the ‘holes’ in the skin of the fish so you can see through.

Location:  Raja Ampat, Indonesia

Equipment Used:  Olympus EPL2 Camera, Olympus M.Zuiko 60mm Macro Lens, Sea & Sea YS-02 Strobe

Camera Settings: 1/8-, F18, ISO 200
