The Story: Banggai Cardinalfish can be found in many dive sites of the Lembeh Strait and I’ve photographed them on different occasions. But I was never happy with the results as these incredibly pretty little fish move steadily and unpredictably. It looks like jumping motions from one place to another. For this particular photo I stayed in front of an anemone around which a small group of these fish were gathered for quite a while. I took my time for them to relax, starting to understand how they moved. This allowed me to get away with the photo I had envisioned ever since I first saw one of these beauties.

Location:  Lembeh Strait, Indonesia

Equipment Used: Canon EOS 5D Mark IV Camera, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM, Nauticam Housing, Dual Sea & Sea YS-D2J Strobes

 Camera Settings: 1/160, F22, ISO 250
