Honorable Mention, Marine Life Behavior

Steven Kovacs

"New Generation"  Shot in Florida, USA with Nikon D7000

Steven won a 9-night dive and stay package in Indonesia with Alor Divers!

The story:  Ocassionally during night dives I have observed crabs and shrimp release their eggs into the water column and so I'm always on the look out for this possibility.  One night I was just plain lucky to be able to photograph this event.  I was actually focused on another subject when I happened to look beside me and notice an arrow crab with eggs.  I didn't think much of it, but suddenly it opened its pouch and started aerating its eggs.  A second later I noticed couple of new hatchlings floating away and realized what was happening.  The entire event was over in seconds but fortunately I was able to get a couple of shots off before it was over.

Location:  Riviera Beach, Florida, USA

Camera:  Nikon D7000, Nikkor 60mm lens, Ikelite housing, dual Ikelite DS-160 strobes

Settings:  f32, 1/250, ISO 200
