The story:

The tiny amphipod on the tunicate is my favorite super macro subject. I went to Tulamben in October 2013, and it was my first time tried to shoot this combination. It's so tiny and really active, I spent 2 dives with them, but didn’t get good images.

I thought shooting this subject would be a challenge for me and I wanted to face it. So I went back to Tulamben in April 2014 with a lot of thoughts about how to shoot this combination.

It was a tough process. I did night dive everyday the whole week, tried to shoot them from different angles and used strobe light different ways. The most difficult thing was getting distinct details of subject and clean background in the same image. I put snoots on both sides of the tunicate, and kept adjusting the aperture…

After countless presses of the shutter release, finally, I captured a few frames including this image. I feel so happy and grateful.
