"Sarah and the Starfish"  Shot in Grand Cayman with Panasonic GX1

The story:

I had been planning this shot for a while and was lucky enough that it all came together on the night. Sarah used weights to keep her below the surface in shallow water, balanced on the back of her neck and therefore out of shot. Once we found a starfish (as the name suggests Starfish Point has plenty to choose from) I lined up the shot with the sinking sun and both of  us were careful not to stir up too much sand.

I kept 2 strobes above the water to avoid any backscatter and give the image that dappled sun effect on the sand. I only had around 10 minutes when the sun was perfect for the shot and was constantly adjusting settings as the light changed. This was one of around 30 attempts in quick succession and certainly one of the more challenging shots to light that I have attempted.

Location:  Starfish Point, Grand Cayman

Camera:  Panasonic GX1, 8mm fisheye lens, Nauticam housing, dual Sea & Sea YS-D1 strobes.

Settings:  f14, 1/160, ISO 160
