The Story:
A group of lion’s mane nudibranchs (Melibe leonina) congregate in the kelp forests of God’s Pocket, Canada. They use their large, distinctive oral hood to capture small prey floating in the water. I shot this with an 8-15mm fisheye lens on a 1.4x teleconverter, along with a small dome to allow me to get close while still filling the frame with nudibranchs. With so many nudibranchs in the small bay in God’s Pocket, there’s no shortage of subjects, so the challenge for me was to find interesting kelp that could provide strong backgrounds.
