Trip Leader
Tim grew up in tiny Singapore, where driving for more than an hour meant you would need a passport. Traveling was always his passion, but Tim became addicted to dive travel soon after he got scuba certified in Malaysia. As his diving addiction grew, Tim eventually became a Staff Instructor with PADI and an Instructor Trainer with SDI. After getting his instructor certification, Tim spent time teaching scuba in Malaysia and Vietnam.
Tim serves as General Manager and COO at Bluewater Travel and is the company’s most seasoned trip leader. With a portfolio of leading over 30 group trips, his extensive expertise encompasses a variety of popular dive destinations such as the Galapagos, Raja Ampat, French Polynesia, Fiji, the Red Sea, Palau, Maldives, among others. His travels have taken him across all seven continents and allowed him to dive in all five oceans—the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Antarctic.
How To Get There
Flight Information
Seaventures Dive Rig is located close to Mabul Island and the town of Semporna in the Sabah region of Malaysian Borneo. Guests should plan their flights to the final destination of Tawau Airport (TWU), routing through Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI) or Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL).
ARRIVAL
We recommend planning to arrive in Malaysia at least 1 day prior to embarkation to allow for delayed or canceled flights. There are no hotels in the immediate vicinity of the airport, so we would suggest either:
- Spending an extra night or two in Kuala Lumpur (enjoyable and interesting city with plenty to see and do) and taking the early morning flight from KUL to TWU on April 11 – AirAsia AK5744 departing KUL at 6:00 am.
- Flying to Semporna on April 10 and spending one night in Semporna (commercial port town with less appeal).
The transfer from Tawau Airport departs at 10:00 am on April 11, where you will be taken by road and then boat out to the dive rig.
DEPARTURE
On April 18, the boat leaves the rig at 2:00 pm for the transfer back to Semporna and on to the airport. Please note that transfers between the rig and the airport can take up to 2 hours, depending on weather and sea conditions. As such, we recommend booking your departure flight after 6:00 pm.
For guests joining our Borneo Safari immediately after, transfers on to the start of this trip are included.
Flight Package
Our group trips attract guests from all over the globe and many of our customers prefer to book their own flights to take advantage of mileage points or credit card discounts. For these reasons, flights are not included in our group trip packages.
However, we are more than happy to work with you to find the best travel itinerary for your trip and will gladly give suggestions and advice, even if you make the final booking. We will check through your travel reservations at any time to ensure they fit with the trip schedule and can give recommendations on transit hotels and day tours where needed.
If you would like us to book flights and transit hotels for domestic and/or international travel on your behalf, we are also happy to arrange this. Contact Us for more information.
Payment Schedule
- Deposit: $750 to book your spot
- Payment 2: $1,000 due 1 April 2026
- Balance: Due 1 November 2026
