G1X V G12 Macro Photography U/W

I currently use the Canon G12 and Canon WP-DC34 housing as my main UW camera and get grate photos from it.
i would like to know what your team thinks of the G1X manly with the Macro side of the camera, would it be worth going to the new G1X sins the Macro does not let you get as close?

I think with diopters (either internal or external) the macro capabilities will be fine and the IQ of the image will be a lot better.
