Mostly no, sad to say. If your name is Doubilet, maybe or Stephen Frink then you might get sponsored but I believe that it is extremely rare. If you are a well known reviewer you can get gear to test and write about but it goes back to the company in most cases.

I don't think those guys get any free gear either....
Maybe some advert or trips (for leading said trips)
but otherwise it's generally no more than a "pro"
discount or loaner gear when needed.

About 20 years ago it was possible to get sponsorship. Today it is almost impossible, especially for those new to the dive world. All of the working pros I know but one pays for everything.
I suggest buying used systems to save money. New gear comes out all the time and there are always deals. Remember great images are created by the person using the camera, not because a camera is great.

My guess is that Steve Frink gets free Canon stuff; at the Scuba Show they were batting his name around quite prominently. If he isn't getting free stuff, then they should be paying him.
