Fiber optic cable mask?

I've noticed some photographers have fabricated fiber optic cable masks for
the housing. Does one run the risk of burning out the camera's built in flash,
with these masks? I guess the goal is to restrict the internal flash "leakage" in order to prevent back scatter or hotspots. Do these masks or the practice of simply putting tape
over the flash section of the housing, cause things to heat up and/or contribute to
internal fogging? If I just secured the fiber optic cable with velcro type stuff, would this be sufficient, or is it optimal practice to block out the internal flash as much as possible???

I am not sure about these masks here but I think everything will be fine once this is fixed - this fiber optic cable mask.
