g11 on Manual + external flash

Hi Everybody,
I just bought the Inon S2000 for the use with my G11. Now I was playing around with it a bit in Manual and it seems that the G11 automatically shifts back to a 1/500th, even when I choose e.g. 1/1000th shutter speed. Can I prevent this?
In P-Mode I can choose a higher shutter speed and it works, but I would like to use it Manual
so I can light up the foreground when chooting sunbursts...
Any idea would be appreciated...

Mattias:
Are you sure that you can get the g11 to sync a strobe at any speed faster than 1/500? My understanding

is that the internal flash (not the hotshoe) will only run at a max of 1/500. So what you are seeing should be OK.

Hi Bill, thanks for the Link.
as far as I understand the G11 is able to sync faster than 1/500th, but it doesn't do it in Manual Mode, when using forced flash. Somehow this is a pity when shooting straight into the sun with flash for lighting the foreground....
so I was hoping there is a way to trick the camera to use faster shutter speeds.
All the best

That doesn't sound right to me either. (and I did read the link posted by Bill)
I just checked my g12 and it syncs to 1/2000.
I have 2 dive buddies one uses a G10 and the other a G11 - I will ask them and get back to you.

I think I understand now. Here are the speeds and modes
1/2000 sec sync with internal flash:P mode with safety FE on,
Tv, Av mode with flash output set to auto and safety FE on.
1/500 sec sync with internal flash: P mode with safety FE off,
Tv, Av mode with flash output set to auto, but safety FE off,
Tv, Av mode with flash output set to manual,
M mode (flash output is always manual, safety FE does not apply).
And if you are using the hotshoe it is 1/250 max.
So yes you were right, you can get high speed sync with safety FE on but in manual mode you can not use Safety FE so the max speed is 1/500

I spoke to one over the weekend and he will check and get back to me.
But I just remember that they still sell the G11 here in Wellington as the "current model" - if I get an oportunity I will go into the shop and check myself.
