7D and what else?

hi,

I got a 7D for over a year now, with a nice 17-55, the 70-200 II and it's 2x extender

I used to do underwater photo with a panasonic TZ3 and casing

looking now at using my 7D

but need recommendation for lens and casing....
i am more into macro/ close up than into wide angle pix
had my eyes on the canon MP-E 65mm f_2.8 1-5x Macro Photo, the EF-S 60 2.8
the marco 100.. well, it's covered by my 70-200.. so i want to limit the double support range
living in Taiwan, í've got Palau not too far..and some other things...
so, i want to get things rolling

any ideas on lens, casing and strobes?

The 60mm and the 100mm are what you want for macro. They will both focus down to 1x1. The MP-E 65mm might be cool but I don't know anyone who has used it or any manufactures that make a port for it.
I am using a 7D in a Nauticam housing. I also like the Sea&Sea and Aquatica housings for the 7D.

Matt: I think you should take a look at both the Nauticam and the Aquatica housings. Todd and I both have the Nauticam and I have used the Aquatica and both are great housings. Others to look at are Subal and Sea and Sea but I have not tried either of those. As for lenses, if you have ever played with the 65 macro lens you will soon understand that the only reason to take one underwater would be to try to make yourself crazy. This is a wonderful lens for shooting on land, with a big tripod or better yet a fully geared copy stand and lots and lots of light and lots and lots of patience.

To shoot supermacro get the new 100 macro lens and use one or more diopters (on the lens itself), extension tubes, teleconverters, or external diopters (MacroMate, SubSee, Woody's diopter, Inon, etc.). Get a good focus light (there are many). For macro strobes, I use the Inon S2000, and I really like the Athena ringflash which gets you more traditional macro lighting.

As for strobes, I would consider getting Optical connector a priority and possibly one of the following choices:

Inon Z-240 (general purpose strobe)

Sea & Sea YS-110 (general purpose strobe)

Inon S2000 (more dedicated to macro kind of strobe)

All work in S-TTL in conjunction with the 7D internal flash and all are AA batteries, making them easy to manage.

my choice went to the 60 macro lens
aquatica casing and the inon Z-240 strobe


and tried the pack in Palau with Fish 'n Fins

still need to practice and improve on my colors and style, but got some decent shots!

Mathieu, has you noticed, the closer you were to the subject, the nicer the colors were. Thats the name of the game, be close and then get closer.
