Hi everybody, right now as Iam writing theses lines I am attending a dolphin expedition in the southern red sea. It will last from june 6 to june 16.2010 . Its 8 Pm and we are ankering on a small off shore reef off the Marsa Nakhari Dive Camp for the night. look it up on google earth.
Today we have encountered 3 large and a baby of indo pacific bottlenose dolphins near the town of Marsa Alam. We are cruising in a zick zack course heading south from Marsa Alam and trying to gather data of how many dolphins will cross our course. The pourpose of the expedition is to use the collected data in positive influencing the egyptian government on the development of the southern red sea coast to prevent mistakes that were made on the northern red sea coast.
Current conditions: Outside air temperature aprox. 35 degrees celsius, water temp. 29 degrees celsius, underwater vsibility less than 20 meter due to plankton in the water. Usually the vsisibility in the red sea is fantastic ! We have had a hot sunny day.
If you have questions about this expeditions ask them here and I will try to answer them anytime I can go online on the ship.

This sounds like so much fun, will you be able to swim with the dolphins at all?

Hi
I certainly hope to be able to swimm with the dolphins like I did with the humpback whales. But the dolphin encounters we have had so far were in the open high seas and the dolphins did swimm too fast ....

Unfortunatly we didnt alwys have internet during the expedition on the boat, but if anyone is interested, here are the photos from the expedition: http://www.fotodive.ch/egypt-red-sea/61
We had many oportunitys to swimm with the dolphins, sometimes we were with up to 200 dolphins at once in the water.
