Canon 100mm 2.8L vs 100mm 2.8

Hi just trying to justify the extra cost in the Canon 100mm '2.8L' macro compared to the older 100mm 2.8 macro. Is there that much difference between these two macro lenses from Canon?

Thanks purchased the 2.8L IS USM.
