i am new to photography and uw photography. i am planning a shark cage dive trip to guadalupe island and wanted info as to a camera body, lens, housing and strobe. i was leaning towards a canon t2i since i wanted one for my day-to-day family pics. what would be a good wide angle lens and housing for it? also, will i NEED strobes? i dont expect to need an underwater setup after this trip since i live in nyc and wont be needing an underwater camera after this trip. is there a place that might rent housing and strobes?
any info is appreciated! thanks!

I would call around and see if anyone still rents housings. It use to be common but I'm not sure any more. Backscater, Reef Photo, ABSea Photo even B&H photo.
The white sharks will come right up to the cage in guadalupe so I would recommend the Tokina 10-17 and I would also recommend strobes.

Any dSLR should be fine. I'd definitely want strobes. I try a Tokina 10-17mm fisheye, and also maybe the Nikon 10-24mm rectilinear. Like Todd said, the sharks will come close.

Call Alan at ABSEA photo in LA. They rent cameras and housings. (310)645-8992
They rent housings for the T1i and the 7D if you have Canon lenses. I second the recommendation for the tokina 10-17 but I think Scott's suggestion of a Nikon lens is probably not going to work so well on your camera.
