Hi
Ive just made the plunge into the DSLR market and received my RDX550d housing today.
Ive attached the optical lead to fire my s&s ys110a manually and messed with the strobe switches but i cant seem to get the strobe not to fire when the cameras internal flash does its multi flash sequence for metering.
Is there a setting to stop the pre flash sequence
or
an other way round this?
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks Xkey

The 110a has three modes. manual 1, manual 2 and TTL. Start out with the camera in TTL mode and the strobe in TTL mode and you should be fine. If you want to shoot the strobes in manual mode then you need to set the camera internal strobe to manual not ETTL. In that mode there is no pre-flash from the camera and you should use manual mode 2 (no pre-flash). But you will also need to turn off the auto-focus assist mode on the camera (custom functions) otherwise the camera will fire the strobe to help the autofocus. You will need a good autofocus light to get focus in that case.
Hope this helps

thanks for the quick reply Bill much appreciated
Ive located the C.fn and Disabled the autofocus/drive, AF - assist beam firing.
But the ETTL is still grey'd out and cant change it.
The assist beam now doesn't fire is it necessary that ETTL is turned off?
Thanks again

In the camera manual mode, you should be able to set the internal strobe to either eTTL or to manual. What camera mode are you in?
