Sorthing through some shots from Maui I came across this little guy that I had forgotten about. I can't seem to find it in my ID books and could use some help.

Wow, Tracy, that IS a doozy! I have three Hawai'i ID books and this little guy didn't appear in any of mine either. (Hoover, Randall, Mahaney).
The good news is that I have a number of expert friends who probably CAN ID this fella for you. So hold on and I'll send out some emails to them and hopefully we'll track this mystery fish down.

And we have an answer for you, Tracy!!!
John Hoover himself, author of Hawai'i's Fishes, says it's a "nice photo of a juvenile Calotomus carolinus - Star-eye Parrotfish. They can be quite variable in color."
Congrats on a great shot!
